I was lucky enough to be invited to Thailand for a month holiday with my Au Pair family. This is going to be a long blog but ill try to keep it as short and possible.
Departure: We left the house on the 5th of February at 5:30am. The weather in LA was bad so we did circles until we finally landed in Palm Springs. When we finally flew from Palm Springs to LAX we discovered that our connecting flight to Japan had left without us. We booked another flight through South Korea which meant 12 hours of waiting in LA in a hotel room. Eventually we landed in Bangkok!
Bangkok: We stayed in Bangkok for 3 nights at the Davis hotel. It was busy here as we were right in the middle of everything. The kids enjoyed swimming in the pools and bathing in the sun. We were supposed to fly from Bangkok to Phuket the next day but our accommodation was cancelled so we drove to Hua Hin instead.
Hua Hin: On the taxi ride from Bangkok to Hua Hin we got stopped by police for a random drug test. It turns out that our driver had drugs in his system so we were left stranded on the side of the freeway with three kids and a lot of luggage. It took around an hour for another driver to come and take us the rest of the journey. Our house in Hua Hin had a beautiful pool that we spent so much time in. The kids enjoyed going to the local beaches and markets but the beaches were a little rough.
On the 11th of Feb Tina, Ethan and I went to a water park called Vana Nava. Tina loved the slides and Ethan loved the shallow pools. I forgot to take my camera with me so I didn't get any photos, you will just have to trust me when I say we all enjoyed it.
When in Thailand do as the Thai do? I rode on a scooter with Ooy and her friend. Three people on one scooter. Mum, I'm sure you're freaking out when reading this but just know that I survived!
We had another nanny named Emma look after the kids while David, Ooy and I went out for a few drinks. We ended the night at the Hilton bar where there was some good live music that we could dance and sing to.
On the 13th we drove up to Monkey Mountain where we saw hundreds and hundreds of monkeys. They jumped on the car and got up close and personal. When we saw them ripping apart a bike helmet we decided it would be best to stay in the car with the windows up.
I went to the night market where they were having a Chinese New Year celebration. I bought a few trinkets to give to people back home and got a henna tattoo.
Koh Talu Island: David decided it would be nice to head out to Koh Talu island for a few days of relaxing. We packed up the kids and stay at a hotel near the boat port. In the morning we went over in a boat to literally paradise. It was SO nice! The first day I swam, slept and went squid fishing. The second day I went snorkeling and got a whole body massage for 2.5 hours. I was in heaven. I met a really nice family there from Denmark and met up with them when we got back to Hua Hin.
They had a turtle breading sanctuary on the island. It was cool to get up close to giant turtles, tiny turtles and everything in between.
Phuket: We stayed in a BEAUTIFUL villa called Leamsingh Villas. We had an amazing view of the ocean. On the 22nd David, Ooy and I went out to Patong for a few too many drinks. It was possibly the most drunk I've ever been. It was very fun though. It took me all day to recover the next day. While in Phuket we spent lots of time at the beaches where the waves were tiny so the kids really enjoyed swimming. Ooys mum came and stayed with us for a few days. She doesn't speak any english so I couldn't talk to her but she seemed nice.
On the 25th Ooy had a birthday. She chose to go to the mall to shop. There was a really cool kids area that had arcade games, a big ball pit and a playground. For dinner we had a big seafood spread with every kids of yummy seafood you can think of.
Raya Island: We took a day trip from Phuket to the Raya island. The water was so clear and it was perfect for snorkeling. I saw heaps of fish and even some sea snakes.
Departure: We left Phuket on the morning of the 4th of March. We stayed in Bangkok for one night then caught our flight back to the USA. The flight home went a million times smoother than the flight there.
